San Juan County’s Elections officials are asking local voters to check the return address on their ballot envelopes.

According to Elections officials, included in a recent shipment of local ballots were some envelopes with return addresses located in Asotin County.

Ballots were recently mailed out for Tuesday’s general election and began arriving last week at local homes and post office boxes.

The county Elections office was alerted to the mistaken address by someone on Orcas Island who received an Asotin envelope in his local elections ballot packet. A replacement envelope has been mailed to that voter.

Voters are asked to check their envelope before mailing to be sure it is addressed to San Juan County. Elections offers three options in the event you receive a ballot envelope with an out-of-county return address:

— Call the Elections office, 378-3357, to request a replacement envelope.

— Change the address on the return envelope to the correct address: P.O. Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA. 98250.

— Place the envelope, along with your ballot, into a ballot drop-box to avoid mailing it. (Drop boxes are located at the Lopez Island Fire Station, Orcas Senior Center, and in front of the county courthouse on Second Street in Friday Harbor.)

Asotin County has been contacted by local elections officials and will forward any local ballots to San Juan County.
