San Juan County Council passed Resolution No. 21-2024 regarding extending the duration of the Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) for acquiring and maintaining conservation areas through the San Juan County Land Bank.
This proposition would extend the existing one percent Conservation Area Real Estate Excise Tax paid by the purchaser of real property in San Juan County for an additional 12 years through Dec. 5, 2038 to fund the acquisition and maintenance of conservation areas, which include but are not limited to open spaces, wetlands, marshes, aquifer recharge areas, shoreline areas, natural areas, and other lands and waters that are important to preserve flora and fauna.
Each committee may have up to three members, though members may seek the advice of any number of people to assist in developing the statements. The Council must appoint the committee no later than August 6, 2024 and each committee’s statement must be submitted to San Juan County Elections no later than Aug. 13.
