The San Juan Builders Association is hosting a forum for San Juan County Council District 2 candidates Rich Peterson and Laura Jo Severson on Oct. 13, 7 p.m., in Mullis Community Senior Center.

The forum will be moderated by Jack Cory, editor of www.IslandGuardian.com. The general election is Nov. 2.

Association director John Evans said the candidates will “focus on issues important to upland and shoreline property owners, local businesses, employers, working families, local builders and related construction trades. Topics include pending changes to land use and development regulations, dealing with solid waste disposal, improving cell phone and Internet services, the dynamics of county budgets in tough economic times and the impact of council policy direction on local employment, businesses and working families.”

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans will host the following forums for candidates for Congress, state House of Representatives, San Juan County Council, and Sheriff.

— Oct. 15, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Shaw Island Community Center.
— Oct. 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Friday Harbor Middle School Commons.
— Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to noon: Orcas Island Senior Center, Eastsound.
— Oct. 16, 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Grace Episcopal Church, Lopez Village.
