Samaritan save; tidelands trespass; shorted supplies | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 16

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a hit-and-run with property damage near Roche Harbor and the registered owner of the vehicle was located and contacted.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a cow that had escaped from its pasture. The cow was unable to walk itself home, being sick, old, and having unhealthy rear legs. Per the owner’s request, the cow was put down to rest.

• A San Juan deputy checked a location for a person who was wanted on an active warrant issued out of San Juan County District Court. The person was not found at the location and follow-up will be conducted later to locate them.

• A deputy on San Juan took a delayed report of property damage caused by a delivery truck to a residence.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a traffic offense that appeared to have been road rage. No crime was committed.

• An Orcas deputy investigated vandalism on Quarry Lane. A report was authored and forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review.

Feb. 17

• A boat in Fisherman Bay was in danger of sinking due to a mooring line issue. Good Samaritans fixed the problem.

• San Juan deputy responded to a report of an unwanted found in a homeowner’s residence in violation of an agreement between the two. The person left; the homeowner signed a trespass letter barring the person from the residence indefinitely, and the trespass letter was served.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Orcas Road for speeding. The driver was found to have a suspended license and was cited for speeding, for not having insurance, and for driving with a suspended license-3rd degree.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 58 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Feb. 18

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired vehicle registration. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and issued citations for not having insurance and expired registration.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding trespassing on the privately-owned portion of the Otis Perkins beach and tidelands.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a boat owner a ticket for violating San Juan County Code 10.28.010 – Mooring at a Public Landing.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle that had a defective headlight. The driver was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle without a license and given a warning for the headlight.

Feb. 19

• An Orcas deputy responded to a single-vehicle roll-over crash on Olga Road and a report of driving under the influence. A report was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review.

Feb. 20

• An Orcas deputy responded to a local business for a theft investigation; the investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a non-injury accident. The driver was found to have driven off a private road and their vehicle was stuck in the mud. No crime was committed, and the vehicle was pulled out.

• An Orcas deputy assisted a citizen with two junk vehicle affidavits.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of illegal burning in a parking lot. The fire was located and extinguished.

Feb. 21

• A San Juan deputy took possession of a found lost cell phone. The cell phone was entered into the evidence system as there was no identifying information to help return it to its owner.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of fraudulent activity on multiple accounts. Currently, there are no workable leads or suspect information.

Feb. 22

• An Orcas deputy arrested a subject for trespassing in a local business. The subject was booked for the violation, placed in jail and a report was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of mail theft. An investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call. A roofer on Lopez was shorted supplies by a hardware company from the mainland. A report was taken and the matter was determined to be civil.

• A deputy assisted the county’s public works department on Lopez by directing traffic while they loaded roadside tree branches into a wood chipper.

• A Lopez deputy responded to an alarm call. A new employee at the Family Resource Center mistakenly pressed the panic alarm button while learning about the building. They now know where it’s located and its function.
