Following a veterans forum on Sunday, Oct. 15, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will tour Zylstra Lake on San Juan Island.
The lake is a 541-acre property acquired by the San Juan County Land Bank and San Juan Preservation Trust through a $1 million U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Coastal Wetlands Conservation grant. The acquisition is part of a larger conservation project within the False Bay watershed which includes lakes, wetlands and water rights.
Larsen will then meet with the San Juan Economic Development Council to receive an update on its collaboration with Skagit Valley Community College to develop training programs for trade careers. Larsen has introduced the Youth Access to American Jobs Act of 2017, legislation to help high school students access highly-skilled jobs by creating partnerships between community colleges and state apprenticeships.
