Reminder: Cold weather shelter still active

Reminder with recent freezing temperatures- United Way of SJC and other supporters are offering temporary shelter for families and individuals for overnight stays during our coldest months. The shelter will be at the Islands Community Church again this year (127 Gilbert Lane, off of San Juan Valley Road) and will operate on days of severe weather under approximately 34°, from Nov. 23 through March 4. The Shelter is open when three events transpire: the weather dips below 34°, there are volunteers signed up, and a guest requires shelter. If anyone needs shelter on a cold night after Nov.23, please call 360-298-9301 to receive a callback or directly reach the on-call volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the co-coordinator, Winnie Brumsickle, by leaving a message on the shelter’s phone number. Volunteers earn a $75 stipend for overnight stays! And of course, all COVID-19 protocols required by state mandate are in effect. Proof of vaccines and masks are required to enter the Shelter.
