Relay for Life is July 25-26, 5:30 p.m. to 11 a.m., on the Friday Harbor High School football field.
The event raises money for the American Cancer Society to improve education, early detection and treatment. To put a face on the fight against cancer, and to encourage participation in Relay for Life, The Journal is publishing photos of people who have fought the battle.

Relay Idol auditions Wednesday at Herb’s
Islanders Bank’s Relay For Life team is hosting “Relay Idol” to raise money for Relay for Life.
Auditions continue Wednesday and on May 21, 9:30 p.m., at Herb’s Tavern. There is a $5 registration fee per performance.
The event is patterned after “American Idol.” Each performance will be judged and the top three singers from each evening will come back for finals May 31, 8 p.m., at Herb’s.
There will be a $5 registration fee per performance. If you don’t make the top three one week, you can register again and try the next week.

‘Evening of Performance Art’ May 23
“An Evening of Performance Art,” featuring comedy, live music and monologues, is May 23, 7 p.m. to midnight, in the San Juan Island Grange Hall in Friday Harbor.
The event is produced by Dan Miller Jr. is association with Betsy Anderson and the “Stilettos” Relay for Life team.
The Banjo Girls open. The Girls — Michael Jean Carpentier and Noel Murchie — perform country, gospel, hymns and old Americana music.
Also on the music lineup: Teddy Deane, Daniel Finn, and Rockfish. Ernest Pugh will perform a monologue.
Taking the stage for some improv comedy: Miller, Anderson and Nina Stone.
Coffee and dessert will be available.
