The San Juan County Council will hold a special meeting and joint public hearing with the planning commission for the purpose of receiving testimony on proposed amendments to the San Juan County Comprehensive Plan vision. The San Juan County Comprehensive Plan is being updated to address a 2036 planning horizon. The vision is a statement of the community’s shared aspirations for the future, describing how the county would like to be and where the comprehensive plan will be used to guide goal and policy development. The hearing will begin at or after 9 a.m. Friday, May 18 at the county council chambers, at 55 Second St. in Friday Harbor. Interested parties are encouraged to attend the hearing, and submit written or oral comments regarding the proposal. The staff report and proposed vision amendments will be filed at the department of community development, 135 Rhone St. in Friday Harbor and posted on the comprehensive plan webpage 10 days prior to the hearing. Review them and related public comments under the “Vision” tab at www.sanjuanco.com/1306/Comprehensive-Plan-Elements. The staff report may be obtained from DCD during business days from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and upon request will be mailed without charge.
How to comment:
The official comment period is Wednesday, May 2-Friday, May 18, unless the county council extends the comment period. Written comments about particular changes should refer to the page and line numbers on the amendments proposed in the staff report. Written comments submitted prior to noon on May 17 will be copied for the county council and planning commission members unless they wish to review comments online.
Ways to comment:
Mail: Prior to the hearing date, mail written comments to Adam Zack, Department of Community Development, PO Box 947 Friday Harbor, WA 98250 or deliver them to the DCD office at 135 Rhone St., Friday Harbor during business hours.
Email: Email comments to compplancomments@sanjuanco.com. Title the email subject line: “Comp Plan Vision from (your last name or agency name).” For the record, include your full address in all correspondence.
Via Oral Testimony: The public is invited to provide comment on the proposed amendments at the joint public hearing. Provide 15 copies of written comments if you submit them to DCD after noon on May 17, or if you distribute written comments at the hearing.
