There were approximately 140 ballots still left to be counted as of Friday, Aug. 9 at 5:30 p.m., according to the San Juan County Elections website. There are 14,760 registered voters in San Juan County, and 54.28% of them turned out to vote.
Here’s how the county voted:
• The San Juan Island Library Levy Lid Lift passed with 56.31% (2,250) yes votes and 43.69% (1,746) no votes.
• Lopez Island School District #144 Proposition 1 Replacement and Safety Capital Levy passed with yes votes totaling 64.85% (845) and 35.15% (458) no notes.
• In the County Council District 1 races, Kari McVeigh and Stephanie O’Day will face off in the General Election, on November 5, 2024. McVeigh received 50.28% of the votes (3,724); O’Day received 30.54% (2,335); and Adrian Kilpatrick received 18.9 % (1,400).
• The County Council District 2 race in November will be between Rick Hughes and Justin Paulsen. Hughes received 50.38% of the votes (3,600); Paulsen received 43.96% (3,140); and Jonathan Welch received 5.42% of the vote (387).
