The Waldron Community Meeting will host a forum July 12, 2-4 p.m., for candidates for County Council, District 4; and Superior Court judge.

The Waldron Community Meeting will provide transportation to and from the Waldron dock. Call Waldron Freight at 360-317-8041.

Each candidate will have 5-10 minutes to present their position, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The primary election is Aug. 19. The general election is Nov. 4.

Pratt schedules meetings at SJI Library
Lovel Pratt, candidate for County Council, San Juan South, has scheduled campaign meetings for Thursday, noon; and July 24, 5:15 p.m., in the San Juan Island Library’s meeting room.

Pratt said she looks forward to hearing about people’s goals and concerns for the community. Pratt plans more campaign meetings. Aug. 13-16, she will have a booth at the San Juan County Fair.

Gregoire backs Linde, becomes honorary chair
Gov. Christine Gregoire has reaffirmed her choice of John Linde as San Juan County’s Superior Court judge by becoming honorary chairwoman of the Committee to Retain Judge Linde.

Gregoire appointed Linde to the position last year when it was created by the Legislature.

Superior Court judges serve four-year terms and are paid $148,832, half of which is paid by the state. Candidates are Randy Gaylord, county prosecuting attorney; and Linde, a former District Court judge and Friday Harbor-based attorney.

Linde was recently appointed by the Superior Court Judges Association to the Best Practices Committee and the Rural Judges Committee.
