Staff report
A two-passenger Island Air shuttle nosedived shortly after takeoff near Roche Harbor on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
According to witnesses, officials at the San Juan Island site said that a seat malfunction slid the pilot to the rear of the airplane, making it impossible for the pilot to reach the controls.
San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs confirmed to the Journal that no one was injured and there were no passengers. He said the minor accident was turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate.
