The 133-foot schooner Adventuress ran aground in Wasp Passage Monday, forcing the evacuation of 27 passengers and crewmembers.
A year of special events will begin at the San Juan County Fair, Aug. 16-19, and will conclude at the 2009 San Juan County Fair.
Events include a community photograph Sept. 20 on the San Juan County Courthouse lawn (all residents can assemble there to be included in the photo); and a town-sponsored birthday party Feb. 9, 3-6 p.m., at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.

A historic schooner that many locals have seen navigating island waters for years ran aground in Wasp Passage today. No injuries were reported.
James Leon Desermeaux, former San Juan County assessor and 42-year resident of Friday Harbor, has died. Mr. Desermeaux died at home on June 18. He was 75.
