Contract negotiations have been “finalized” between PeaceHealth, San Juan County Public Hospital District No. 1 and the independent San Juan Community Hospital Committee. The hospital district commission is expected to discuss the contract’s status at its meeting Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., in the Frank Wilson EMS Building. The meeting is open to the public.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, 3 p.m., at the Iverson home to remember Marta Kristin Anderson Iverson. Marta Iverson was born March 19, 1959. She died Jan. 13, in the presence of family and friends, of ovarian cancer.

Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-San Juan Island, was sworn on Monday when the Senate convened for its 105-day regular session. “There is a lot to do, and I am more than ready to get started on solutions to the major challenges we are facing, both locally and statewide,” Ranker said in a press release.

The San Juan County Council and the Ferry Advisory Committee on Tuesday unanimously endorsed a response to Washington State Ferries’ Long Range-Planning Options that calls the lower-cost Plan B “an unrealistic representation of state ferry service.”

During today’s House Transportation Committee hearing, in which members of the committee scoured Gov. Gregoire’s proposed budget for 2009-11, state Rep. Jeff Morris, D–Mount Vernon, questioned the consistency of a policy that includes $11.7 million for the Enhanced Driver License (EDL) program, while cancelling the primary maritime route between Washington and Canada.
