Audra Crosby, a long-time Friday Harbor resident, passed away peacefully in Tacoma on Jan. 5, 2009. She was surrounded by family at the time. Her beloved husband, Lance, preceded her by almost two years, having passed away in Tacoma on March 26, 2007. They had been married for 67 years at the time of his passing.

PeaceHealth would bear two-thirds of the cost of building a so-called “integrated medical center” on San Juan Island in a contract that has been negotiated with public hospital district officials and the independent San Juan Community Hospital Committee. Initially, it was proposed that the construction costs — estimated at $29.8 million — be shared by PeaceHealth, local philanthropy and a hospital district bond. Richard Carl (Rich) Trainer passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington. He was 65 and had fought a courageous 28-month battle with cancer.
