An Oregon woman is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after accidentally shooting herself early Saturday evening on Lopez Island, according to San Juan County Sheriff’s Department.
The 34-year-old reportedly was handling her luggage, moving the bags about, when a single round from an unholstered firearm in one of the bags discharged and struck her. First-responders came to her aid after receiving a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m. The woman tried to take care of the wound before going to a neighboring house for help, according to the sheriff’s department.
The woman was treated at the scene and flown to a hospital on the mainland. The case remains under investigation.
