Journey inside the human skull and into traditional Tibetan passages that aid and comfort at time of death, as San Juan Community Theatre’s On Book! Readers Theatre presents “The Tibetan Book of the Dead or How Not to Do it Again”.
Directed by Gretchen Gubelman, the production in the ongoing Readers Theatre series of new, classic and prize-winning plays features playwright Jean Claude Van Itallie’s depiction of the soul as it re-experiences the life cycle as it floats, momentarily, free from the trials of earthly existence while striving to overcome ambitions, wants, jealousies and fears that obscure a crucial turning point. The production offers a unique perspective, as Itallie uses the interior of the human skull as the setting for the play.
Performances are May 13 and May 14, 7:30 p.m., in the theatre’s Gubelman Room. Admission is free.
The six-person cast features: Claire Glasgow, Rosa Blair, Yvonne Mancuso, Tori Zehner, Roberta Leed, Therese Finn, Maureen See and CenYing Miles. For info, 378-3210, www.sjctheatre.org.
