The sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.
Dec. 28
• A Lopez deputy was sent to investigate a single vehicle non-injury crash on Mud Bay Road. A Lopez woman was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. No one was hurt in the crash, and the car was impounded. The driver was cited and released pending a court appearance.
• A dog was in its yard outside of its Friday Harbor residence with its owner nearby, when it attacked and injured another dog that was being walked on a leash.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to a 911 hang-up call. The response was canceled after dispatchers were able to contact the caller and determine the call was an error.
• Deputies were dispatched a verbal domestic disturbance on Shaw. After further investigation, it was found to be mainly verbal and both parties promised to stay away from each other for the evening.
Dec. 29
• A Friday Harbor resident called to report a hit-and-run of her car. The reporting party said her car was parked by her apartment at 11 a.m. and when she returned, there was front-end damage. There are no suspects or physical evidence.
Dec. 30
• At approximately 12:18 a.m., deputies responded to a residence on San Juan Island to investigate a report of a domestic dispute. Deputies found this to be verbal only and no further action was taken.
• A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to a single-vehicle traffic accident. The deputy located a vehicle on its roof in a ditch. The accident was deemed to have been weather related.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a report of an at-large dog biting another dog. The owner of the biting dog was cited.
• A deputy was dispatched to a possible injury at a single-vehicle collision in Friday Harbor. After an investigation, the driver was found not to be impaired and declined medical attention.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a Fisherman Bay Road residence regarding a threat complaint. The reporting person initially alleged his roommate had threatened to harm him. Both the reporting person and the roommate declined to cooperate or file a formal complaint. A report was completed.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding and discovered the driver had a suspended license in the third degree. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding and a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license. He was released with a promise to appear in court.
Dec. 31
• A Lopez deputy found several subjects on the beach at Otis Perkins Park after sunset. The subjects left after being contacted.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a fireworks complaint on Fisherman Bay Road. The perpetrator was located and issued a ticket for illegal possession and detonation of fireworks. His remaining fireworks were confiscated and a report was completed.
• Deputies responded to a Tucker Avenue trailer park to investigate a fight in progress. Neither party wanted to press charges.
Jan. 1
• At about 1:35 a.m., a citizen was walking on Guard Street when a full-size, white truck quickly came from behind him and slid sideways into the front of the professional building in Friday Harbor. The vehicle left prior to deputies arriving.
• A deputy located and arrested an Eastsound resident for warrants and driving with a suspended license. A warrant was obtained to search the resident’s vehicle, which had been impounded. Deputies discovered illegal drugs. The suspect could face felony charges for possession of them.
• A deputy was dispatched to the intersection of Roche Harbor Road and Misty Isle Drive for a van in the ditch. Deputies discovered that a van attempting a right turn onto Misty Isle had struck a row of mailboxes. The driver was uninjured and the accident appeared to have been related to the driver’s age. The van was removed from the ditch by a tow truck and the driver was taken home.
• A deputy stopped a vehicle in the early evening hours in Eastsound. Upon further investigation, the deputy had cause to believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court.
Jan. 2
• A Lopez woman was arrested on several domestic violence crimes after an altercation in her family’s home.
• A deputy was dispatched to a theft on the Lopez. An investigation continues.
• Lopez deputies responded to a reported domestic assault in progress. A 22-year-old woman was arrested and lodged in jail on a charge of assault and domestic violence.
• A Friday Harbor deputy received a report of a sex crime that had occurred in another jurisdiction. This case is still under investigation.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a residential alarm. The deputy checked the residence and discovered an open door. There was no evidence, indicating anything was missing from the residence or if anyone had entered. The deputy was able to secure the residence.
• A Friday Harbor resident reported a female subject outside of her vehicle, which appeared to have gone off the roadway into a ditch. The subject was treated at Peace Island Medical Center for an injury and was arrested for driving under the influence.
Jan. 3
• A Friday Harbor woman reported that her dog as missing and was possibly stolen from a Lopez Island business on New Year’s Day. The dog is a black female Pomeranian/poodle mix named Onyx.
• Deputies responded to a report of an abused elderly person in Friday Harbor. An investigation is ongoing.
• A Lopez deputy checked on a deer that had been struck by a car on Mud Bay Road. The deer was dead when the deputy arrived and it was removed from the roadway.
