Submitted by The Town of Friday Harbor
A new crosswalk with push-button blinker lights has been installed midway down Tucker Avenue at the intersection with Harbor Street. The Town Council approved the crossing in response to citizen concerns with the increased volume of children crossing Tucker Avenue to get to Linde Park. This location was selected as it provides drivers the necessary site distance to safely yield to pedestrians during inclement weather.
Although the crosswalk and blinking lights add a layer of safety, pedestrians are advised to use extra caution as drivers learn to respond to the mid-block crossing. “Always make eye contact with drivers before crossing any street regardless of the existence of striping, lights, or even stop signs,” advised Town Administrator Denice Kulseth.
