Mayor Jackson recognized November as National Gratitude Month Nov. 7. He issued a proclamation encouraging citizens to celebrate and express gratitude. The full proclamation reads as follows:
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, National Gratitude Month is a month-long celebration that encourages people to be thankful for the positive aspects of life; and
WHEREAS, National Gratitude Month was started in 2015 by author and inspirational speaker Stacey Grewal; and
WHEREAS, practicing gratitude daily is the act of mindfulness, affirmation, and acknowledgment for the goodness around us; and
WHEREAS, gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” Gratitude shifts focus from the negative to an appreciative mindset able to recognize the positive in our lives; and
WHEREAS, research shows practicing gratitude can provide benefits of improved mental health, stronger relationships, better physical health, decreased stress, more restful sleep, and an overall increased sense of well-being and happiness;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Raymont C. Jackson, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, do hereby proclaim November as
National Gratitude Month
Further, I encourage all citizens to celebrate and express gratitude to recognize and embrace the goodness and joy that surrounds our lives each day.
