The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 15

• A San Juan deputy received a referral from Adult Protective Services regarding a case of fraud. The victim was contacted and found to have incurred no loss in the matter; no suspect information was available.

• A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting in Friday Harbor. A patron had stolen jewelry from a local shop; the reporting party knew the location of the suspect and deputies detained them. After the stolen item was recovered, the suspect received a criminal citation.

• On Orcas, a deputy responded to a report of two loose dogs that chased and killed several ducks on another property. The owners of the dogs were identified, and the owners of the ducks and the owners of the dogs agreed to handle the situation civilly.

• A deputy on Orcas assisted another agency with a report of a missing person. The person was not located and the information was provided to Sheriff’s deputies and Washington State Parks Rangers.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a trespassing complaint on a private beach. The investigation is ongoing.

May 16

• A deputy was dispatched to a child abuse call in the Friday Harbor area. When the deputy contacted the people involved, they learned the incident revolved around disciplining a child. The deputy observed that no crime had occurred and the incident was referred to another agency.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a boat dragging anchor. The boat’s owners were contacted and the problem was rectified.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft in the Friday Harbor area after a report that medication had been taken from a secured location.

• A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious item located in the woods near a public access trail. The item, which had been in the location for a long time and was severely weathered, was later determined to be a graphite battery that did not pose a hazard.

May 17

• A driver on Lopez was stopped for traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone and was issued citations for not having proof of insurance or a valid driver’s license.

• Deputies on Orcas received information on the whereabouts of a person wanted on a local warrant. Deputies responded to the address in the daylight hours, located the subject, arrested him without incident, and booked him into San Juan County Jail.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a bar fight. The victim was saved from serious injury by an employee, and the investigation continues.

• A Lopez deputy received a report of an individual putting inappropriate, nonconsensual bumper stickers on another person’s vehicle in a ferry line. Washington State Patrol and the Anacortes Police Department responded and gave a strict warning to the bumper sticker culprit.

May 18

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of an individual experiencing a health crisis and referred them to an agency that could help.

May 19

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a two-vehicle accident in a parking lot. The driver of one vehicle was stopped in the lot, and the driver of the second car reversed without looking behind them and collided with the stopped vehicle. Both parties exchanged information.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a call about an individual who was experiencing a health issue that involved the person seeking things that were not there. The officer helped clear the home to ensure there was no one inside and provided resources.

May 20

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible theft. It was later discovered that the items had been moved by another family member.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a rifle from a citizen who wanted it held for another person who had requested that it be held for safekeeping. The rifle was so booked.

• Deputies on San Juan took a woman into custody on an outstanding warrant and booked her into the San Juan County Jail.

• A deputy took a report from a citizen who wanted to report arguments that had been occurring between people in Friday Harbor

• On San Juan, a deputy submitted a camera lens accessory to the Sheriff’s office as found property.

May 21

• On Lopez, deputies visited a residence with a designated Crisis Responder(DCR) to assist in evaluating a distraught resident. The individual was contacted, appeared in good health, and refused services. No further action was taken.
