Mayor appoints new Town Planning Commissioners

Submitted by the Town of Friday Harbor

On Sept. 19, Mayor Raymont Jackson appointed Megan Cook and Paul Dossett to the Town Planning Commission. Cook has been a resident of the town for eight years. As a town property owner and a town commercial real estate renter, Cook brings her expertise of strategic planning, environmental management, and leadership to the Commission. Dossett has been a resident of Friday Harbor for 54 years, a former San Juan County Assessor, and he has previous Planning Commission experience.

The new appointees will join Irene Voskamp and Francine Shaw on the Commission. The Commissioners bring a wide variety of experience to represent the town’s constituency. The Commission has one more seat to be filled – preferably by a town resident as the at- large seat is filled.

The Planning Commission reviews the Town Comprehensive Plan and makes recommendations to Town Council concerning matters relating to land use. “We are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated Planning Commission,” said Mayor Jackson. “The Planning Commission has the important duty of advising on the Town’s future development. Public participation and volunteerism are essential in town and local government.”
