Parades and pigs. Pulled pork and hot dogs. Pie eating, face-painting and 3-legged races. Hot Fudge Sundaes and a Beer Garden. Four bands.
It’s all free, except the food and beer.
The annual Kiwanis Pig War Picnic is once again at the Historical Museum park grounds on Price Street, following on the heels of the 4th of July Parade.
O.K.: there won’t be any live pigs, but Mike Vouri will tell the story of the famous Pig War. You can also listen to the four bands: One More Time Band, Tease, Soggy Bottom Gals and Legacy will each play a set.
Presented by Kiwanis and sponsored by Islanders Bank, Browne’s, King’s Market and 6 other island businesses, the Pig War Picnic may be the largest community gathering outside the county fair.
A real family fun-fest. The kind of family-oriented Fourth of July picnic that only a small town can pull off. And all proceeds come back to the community. Mark the calendar.
