Kris Lytton, candidate for the 40th District state House of Representatives, Position 1, brings her campaign to the San Juan Islands with an open house in Friday Harbor on June 5.

Lytton will be in the San Juan Island Library from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Lytton, president of the Anacortes School Board, is one of five candidates running to succeed Dave Quall, who is retiring. The other candidates are Democrat Thomas Boucher, a member of Congressman Rick Larsen’s district staff; Republican Dusty Gulleson, a Bellingham businessman; Republican Mike Newman, a real estate agent and Skagit County Republican Party precinct committee officer; Democrat Tom Pasma, a Bow rancher and nominee of the 40th Legislative District Democrats.

The primary election is Aug. 17, the general election is Nov. 2. The top two vote-getters in the primary advance to the general election.

Lytton said she has spent her life as an advocate for children and education. “I support a progressive policy where the most vulnerable are helped and protected,” she said in a press release. “Where the environment is a trust we share and preserve for the future. Where there is a strong public education system in which every child has the opportunity for a quality education. And it is the right of every Washingtonian to have a job that pays a living wage.”

Prior to entering public service, Lytton spent several years in the private sector working in the financial and accounting departments of Shell Oil Company and Citicorp Executive Development Center. At Citicorp, she was a senior financial analyst and, later, the operations manager.

Over the past 15 years, she and her husband of 21 years, Mike, have raised their family in the 40th District. They have two children: Alex, who is attending the University of Washington, and Alan, a sophomore at Anacortes High School.
