mith. 92, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the Fidalgo Care Center.
Loretta was born on Aug. 15, 1921 to Bess and Coe Augustus in Fremont, Neb. She lived in Friday Harbor, Wash., with her husband Tuck Smith for 22 years. She was active at the Friday Harbor Library as a volunteer, she was an avid bridge player, and an avid lover of dachshunds all of her life.
Following her husband’s death, she moved to Chandler’s Square in Anacortes. She continued to play bridge, participated in the exercise class and other social opportunities at Chandler’s Square.
She incurred a hip fracture followed by three surgeries. She spent her last days at Fidalgo Care Center, where the staff and physicians were very attentive and caring. Kim Levasheff, of Friday Harbor, became her friend and loving caregiver.
Loretta is survived by her daughter Mary McDermott and son-in-law Tim McDermott, who reside in Jackonsville, Fla. She is also survived by two beautiful granddaughters, Kelly McDermott of Chicago, and Megan Lewis and her husband Derek Lewis of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Loretta will be interred next to her husband Tuck in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. Her spirit will always be with us.
