After a number of glitches emerged with its recently installed library information system, WorldShare Management System, the library board has decided to terminate WorldShare and return to Millennium, the software provided by Innovative Interfaces that had been used without any major problems for five years, until August, 2012.

In a statement released by the library, President Mark Madsen said, “The WMS system has turned out not to be an appropriate choice for a library of our size, and not as mature as an information system, in light of bugs, missing features, and the long development path required to address our concerns. We believe our patrons and staff are best served, we believe, by returning to Millennium.”

Reinstalling the old system will take several weeks, according to the library. Both the old and new software vendors are cooperating to facilitate moving records between systems.

The library is continuing its search for new programs to operate its circulation system and online catalog.

“Good patron access and good value for the taxpayers will be guiding principles as we move forward with a deliberate search,” Madsen said.
