On Wednesday, Aug. 31 you’ll have your last chance to submit plays for the 2012 Islands Playwrights Festival. The annual festival will be held Feb. 3 through 18 at San Juan Community Theatre.
The festival’s theme this year, “Celebrations,” provides writers with limitless possibilities for comedic story lines and situations.
Two chairs, one bookcase, a table and small couch will serve as the scene for county playwrights to set a script of no more than 12 minutes in length.
Set in the newly refurbished Gubelman Theatre, the simplicity of the setting will keep the focus on the skills of the playwriting.
The entry fee per script is $20, matched by the theatre, to offset honoraria for three off island judges. The final selections will be determined by a mathematical formula based on the judges’ scores. The plays will be announced in October, followed by auditions in early November.
A complete set of instructions for the playwriting process is available at the SJCT box office. Box office hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
