As the San Juan Historical Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016, we began to look at the archival collection we are so honored to care for, and realized it was time for a renovation project to prepare the museum for the next 50 years. As a result, the museum will be open on a limited basis from Dec. 1 through April 2017 to refresh and renovate our collection.
This year, the museum will not hold its annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration, because of this project. We do look forward to December 2017, when we will present this time-honored tradition once again.
Volunteers are needed for the archive project, beginning in January. Please email project coordinator Diana Mancel at dianamancel@gmail.com or Museum Director Kevin Loftus at museum_admin@sjmuseum.org, if you would like to be a part of this effort. There is a need for organizers, researchers, photographers, amateur archivists, exhibit planners and just about every facet of volunteering one could imagine. There will be a volunteer orientation, specific tasks and the opportunity to contribute your time and efforts in continuing to make the San Juan Historical Society and Museum a vital part of the community for years to come.
