Friday Harbor man charged with possession of heroin

Brian Lynn Borquist, 41, of Friday Harbor, has been charged with possession of heroin.

At his arraignment on March 2, Borquist appeared two hours late, but no bail was set and he was released. He has an omnibus hearing scheduled for April 6 in San Juan County Superior Court.

On Nov. 9, 2017, Borquist was arrested for having two outstanding warrants for failing to appear for a hearing in a district court case. According to the probable cause documents, on Borquist’s property, a San Juan County deputy found a gray bag with multiple syringes and two spoons with a cotton-like substance on the bottom. Later the substance tested positive for heroin, according to court documents.

On Feb. 25, 2018, a deputy arrested Borquist on an outstanding felony warrant for not appearing in court after the Nov. 9 drug charge. The deputy allegedly found heroin in Bourquist’s pocket, according to court documents. While booking Borquist, the deputy found methamphetamine among the accused’s personal effects.

If found guilty of possession of heroin, Borquist could face a maximum five years in jail or a $10,000 fine. According to San Juan County Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Barnett, she requested bail at a Feb. 23 and Feb. 26 hearing for Borquist, but the judge released him on his personal recognizance each time. Borquist’s record includes criminal trespass, driving under the influence and theft.
