The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 13

• San Juan deputies took a report of fraud. There is no known suspect at this time.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding two dogs running a-large. The dogs’ owner was identified and told to pick them up. The reporting party was happy the dogs were getting home safely; no further action was necessary.

• San Juan deputies were advised of a report of fraud. There is no suspect information at this time.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a request for a welfare check. An intoxicated male was contacted and found to not need assistance. He was trespassed from the property.

• Orcas deputies responded with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue to a reported injury-accident involving two motorcycles. The investigation revealed that no injury had occurred.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a juvenile problem. A report was made and will be forwarded to Juvenile Services.

May 14

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of fraud in Eastsound and filed a report.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call at a local business.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a welfare check.

• Deputies stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for driving without a front license plate. The driver was issued a citation for driving without a valid driver’s license with identification

• Deputies responded to a possible domestic disturbance in Friday Harbor. The disturbance was verbal in nature and the involved parties separated for the night.

May 15

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a fraud. The caller said several employees had someone file for unemployment in their names. No suspects or workable leads at this time.

• San Juan deputies were advised of a report of unemployment fraud. The incident was documented and the investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call at a local business and took a report.

• On San Juan, another case of fraud was reported. The caller said someone had filed for unemployment in their name. There are no suspects or workable leads at this time.

• A deputy on San Juan was contacted about a fraud. The caller said they were contacted and told that someone had applied for unemployment in their name. There are no suspects or workable leads.

• San Juan deputies were advised of a report of unemployment fraud. The incident was documented and the investigation is ongoing.

• San Juan deputies received a call about a fraud. The caller was contacted by their employer who said someone had applied for unemployment in their name except the caller had not filed the claim. There are no suspects or workable leads at this time.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call at a local business.

• A deputy in Eastsound was made aware of a fraudulent scam in which a person’s unemployment benefits were being collected fraudulently by unknown persons.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call near Eastsound.

• A Lopez deputy investigated the apparent natural death of a resident.

• Deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision in Friday Harbor. The driver was issued citations for driving without a valid driver’s license with ID and for dangerously distracted driving.

• On Orcas, a deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by a person who was known to have a suspended license. The driver was arrested, issued citations and released. The incident has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

• On two separate occasions, deputies on San Juan stopped drivers for driving with an obstructed rear license plate. The drivers were each issued a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license-3rd degree and citations for driving with an obstructed license plate.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a civil dispute later learned to be an order violation. The suspect was arrested for violating the order and also for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

May 16

• A San Juan deputy conducted a welfare check. The deputy made contact with the person who was then transported to the emergency room for further evaluation.

• A deputy on Orcas investigated the apparently natural death of an Eastsound resident. An unattended death report was filed.

• San Juan deputies were advised of an incident of fraud. The caller had already taken steps to report the incident.

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to a report of unemployment fraud and filed a report.

• A Lopez deputy was called about a dog running-at-large near Hummel Lake. The dog’s owner was identified and was issued a dog-at-large warning letter; the dog returned home.

• A Lopez resident reported a wallet lost or stolen that contained identification, cash and several credit cards. The reporting party called back later saying the wallet had been located intact and no further action or assistance was needed.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a reported theft. The victim was contacted and the investigation is ongoing.

May 17

• A San Juan deputy was contacted about a fraud. The caller was informed by their employer that a request for unemployment had been filed in their name. The caller did not file a claim.

May 18

• Deputies responded to a report of a weapons offense in Friday Harbor. After speaking with several involved parties the suspect was located and arrested for three charges of being in possession of weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm and unlawful carrying or handling.

• On San Juan, a deputy was contacted in reference to a fraud. The caller had received a letter from the state stating they requested unemployment when the caller had not filed for unemployment.

• In another case of unemployment fraud, deputies on San Juan heard from a caller who had been contacted by their employer stating they received notice that the caller applied for unemployment, except the caller did not file a claim for unemployment.

• Deputies were contacted about a credit card that was found in Eastsound. The owner was located and the credit card was returned.

• A San Juan resident contacted the Sheriff’s office about a trespassing incident. The caller requested that a person be served a trespass warning letter for all their properties. The person was contacted and served with a letter.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of fraud after receiving a call from a resident who said they’d been contacted by their employer about filing for unemployment. The caller had not filed for unemployment.

• A person called the San Juan Sheriff’s Office about a fraud. The caller said they received a letter from the state about applying for unemployment, except the person had not applied for unemployment.

• A deputy received a call about a debit card that had been found on the caller’s property. The deputy entered the card into evidence.

• A Lopez deputy completed a report regarding a fraudulent unemployment claim.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 51 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, and arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree.

May 19

• A deputy on San Juan completed a report regarding a fraudulent unemployment claim.

• A San Juan deputy was contacted about a theft. The caller reported materials and equipment were removed from a work site. There are no suspects or workable leads at this time.

• On two separate occasions, Lopez residents reported being notified by their employer that a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed for benefits using their personal identifying information.

• A deputy on Orcas was contacted about unemployment fraud. The caller had been contacted by an employer he used to work for about an unemployment claim filed in their name. As has been the case on several claims of fraud, the caller had not filed for unemployment.

• A deputy responded to a Lopez residence about a noise complaint. An investigation revealed that the home’s occupants were having verbal arguments. All those involved agreed to quiet down and go to bed for the night.
