The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 15

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence call on Decatur Island and found evidence of violence. A suspect was arrested and booked into the San Juan County jail.

• A deputy responded to a report of a traffic hazard in Friday Harbor. It was determined that the incident was a non-injury, single-vehicle wreck due to the icy road.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a possible robbery. The reporting party was interviewed and the incident was documented. There are no suspects or workable leads at this time.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor was contacted about a communications issue involving a known individual.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy took a report of a possible theft or misplaced property.

Jan. 16

• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of an apparent assault that had occurred the day before. A preliminary investigation revealed probable cause to believe a known suspect physically assaulted another person. The case is under further investigation.

• A deputy took a report of an alleged hit-and-run with property damage on Orcas. An unknown vehicle had damaged some landscaping on private property.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for not displaying a license plate and for having a defective brake light. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and an ignition interlock violation. The driver was also issued a citation for not having insurance and for having an expired registration.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call in the Eastsound area.

• A deputy on San Juan arrested a driver for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and an ignition interlock violation. The vehicle was impounded for a narcotics investigation.

• Deputies responded to a civil call in Friday Harbor. The civil papers were served without incident and property obtained via a valid order signed by a judge was secured into the evidence room pending a hearing.

Jan. 17

• Deputies received a call of a possible forgery in Eastsound. The investigation is ongoing.

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate a complaint of an unlawful recording of a private conversation. The involved person was warned that additional violations would result in a criminal charge.

• A Lopez deputy contacted two dog owners about on-going issues between them.

Jan. 18

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a burglary to a business.

• A deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding in Lopez Village.

• A deputy on San Juan arrested a person with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to a fence after a vehicle left the roadway. Deputies are looking for a white Ford SUV involved in the incident.

Jan. 19

• A deputy on Lopez spotted an illegal burn that had gotten out of control. The fire, having spread to standing trees nearby, took firefighters over 2.5 hours to extinguish.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a landlord-tenant dispute.

• A Lopez deputy was called about animals running at-large. The animals’ owner was contacted and the animals were secured back in the pasture from which they escaped.

• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 38 mph in a 25 mph zone of Moran State Park, and for not having proof of insurance.

Jan. 20

• A deputy responded to a report of harassment. After talking with the reporting party it was determined that no crime had occurred, however, an information report was completed.

• Lopez deputies arrested a man for making death threats. He was transported to Friday Harbor and booked into jail pending a court hearing.

• A deputy on San Juan arrested a driver for driving with a suspended driver’s license, for an ignition interlock violation, and two misdemeanor warrants.

• On two separate occasions, deputies responded to reports of found items in Friday Harbor. The owners were unable to be located and the items were secured in the property room for safekeeping per policy.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a welfare check and contact was made.

• Orcas deputies were notified of a missing 93-year-old female. Deputies conducted a search and located her in a wooded area.

• A deputy on San Juan was contacted at the Sheriff’s Office about whether safekeeping was available. The person had some items he wished to turn over to the Sheriff’s Office for disposal.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a domestic incident. It was determined that no crime was committed.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a threats complaint. The victim was contacted and it was determined no crime occurred.

Jan. 21

• Orcas deputies were given a small zipper bag which was found in the 200 block of Crescent Beach Road. The items were logged in to evidence as found property.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud complaint. The victim had reportedly received calls and emails from what appeared to be an Amazon employee. She soon realized she was being scammed and was able to keep the perpetrator from receiving any gain from his deceptions.
