The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Sept. 8
• An Orcas deputy took a report regarding a civil matter over firewood on Shaw Island.
• A deputy took a report regarding an unknown person entering and sleeping in an unlocked vehicle not belonging to them on the 40 block of Madrona St. on Orcas. Nothing was stolen or damaged in the vehicle.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a non-injury collision on Cattle Point Road. A driver attempted to overtake a tractor in a no-passing zone and, while doing so, collided with the tractor.
• A San Juan deputy responded to an agency assist. No crime appeared to have been committed.
• A deputy initiated a traffic stop on Roche Harbor Road on San Juan. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 65 mph in a 45 mph zone.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a burglary. The homeowner found that someone was in their home while they were away. Evidence was collected and the suspect trespassed from the property.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because they did not have a driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid license with ID and received additional warnings.
• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of lost property on San Juan.
Sept. 9
• An Orcas deputy authored a found property report for a jacket and cellphone located in the public bathroom at 203 North Beach Rd.
• An Orcas deputy investigated an allegation of assault. A report was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney for review.
• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a citizen dispute. An investigation was conducted, and a report will be sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review.
• A deputy was dispatched to a threats call on the San Juan. The deputy contacted the people involved in the incident that involved a landlord/tenant problem. Both parties were advised to comply with the law and only contact each other through third parties.
• An Orcas deputy investigated a report of fraud. A victim paid an unknown person $1,000 for a vehicle that did not exist. The investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a found bicycle. The bicycle had been left at its location since early July and was entered into evidence.
• A deputy responded to a non-injury, single-vehicle accident on Trailhead Road on Orcas. A courtesy report was authored.
• An Orcas deputy took a report of a missing person.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left of center. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into jail.
• A vehicle at the Hunter Bay dock on Lopez was ticketed for 72-hour and permit violations.
• A Lopez resident called about ongoing poor behavior and land use issues with their new neighbors. A report was completed and contact information for other county departments was provided.
• A deputy contacted a person who reported someone was trespassing in the Friday Harbor area.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report from a citizen who wanted another individual trespassed from their property. The person was served a notice of trespass.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Sept. 10
• A San Juan deputy was contacted regarding a potential mental health issue. Recent law changes rendered the deputy unable to assist as no crime had been reported and no imminent threat appeared to exist.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor took a report about a hit and run. There is no suspect or evidence at this time.
• An Orcas deputy authored an incident report over alleged harassment.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding, 47 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 48 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and received multiple warnings.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued them a citation for traveling 45 mph in a 25 mph speed zone.
• A deputy responded to a reported theft from a local San Juan restaurant. A subject was arrested for third-degree theft and for resisting arrest.
• A deputy on San Juan assisted the fire department with a possible structure fire. A person on the scene, known to law enforcement to have court-ordered alcohol conditions, appeared to be highly intoxicated. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
• A San Juan deputy located a person who was trespassing. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.
Sept. 11
• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. Investigation revealed the incident was verbal in nature and no crime was reported.
• An Orcas deputy investigated a fraud call. A victim had $4,500 stolen from their personal bank account. An investigation was conducted; however, no leads have surfaced.
• Lopez deputies responded to a verbal domestic incident. The parties were separated for the evening and a civil standby was offered for the following day.
Sept. 12
• A deputy was called to assist with a disabled vehicle on Lopez that was partially blocking a lane on Ferry Road. The car was pushed to where it could be parked safely off the roadway.
• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding on Center Road, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.
• An Orcas deputy arrested a subject for a violation of a protection order. The suspect was booked into jail in Friday Harbor.
• A deputy was called about cattle running at large in the area of Mud Bay/Vista Road on Lopez. The cattle were secured in a nearby pasture until the owner was identified and could come to get them. No further action was necessary.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a call about a domestic incident. The deputy arrived, contacted the people involved; and, after speaking with those involved, the incident was found to be a verbal argument only. One of the people involved left the residence to stay elsewhere.
• Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. No crime appeared to have been committed.
• A deputy on San Juan observed a person driving who is known to have a suspended driver’s license. The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for driving with a suspended driver’s license and an ignition interlock violation.
Sept. 13
• On San Juan, a person reported to the sheriff’s office that they were putting a deer down. The deer had been trying to deliver a dead fawn and the person did not want to see it suffer any longer. The death of the unborn fawn did not appear to be virus-related.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a possible sexual assault the reporting party stated happened a few months ago. The case is still under investigation.
• A deputy on San Juan took possession of a found debit card and entered it into the evidence system for safekeeping.
• A deputy responded to a report of found property on Orcas and took the property into custody.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of threats; however, the incident did not meet the requirements per the Revised Code of Washington for criminal-level harassment. The incident was documented.
• San Juan deputies assisted a community member with a domestic violence case. The person was provided with resources, and designated crisis responders were contacted. An investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a death investigation.
Sept. 14
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident on San Juan. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the people involved. The incident involved an intoxicated person who was out of control. The people involved separated for the night.
• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a theft in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy contacted the person involved who reported that several signs had been taken over the last month. There are no suspects at this time.
• A Lopez resident reported an unknown person was taking photos of their house and yard. When they went to investigate, the person left. A deputy found the person and the vehicle and learned he was doing contract utility work and that everything was legitimate.
