Fair to host meeting on Drive-In movie plans

The fair expects to offer movies on 23 nights between April and November, with room for about 100 cars and 50 spectators at each after-dusk movie.

The San Juan County Parks and Fair Department will host a meeting to provide details and receive community input about the 2014 Drive-In movie series, 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Marie Boe building at the fairgrounds.

Earlier this year, the County Council approved a $25,000 grant to purchase equipment for a drive-in movie venue at the fairgrounds

The fair expects to offer movies on 23 nights between April and November, with room for about 100 cars and 50 spectators at each after-dusk movie.

The drive-in, including expected concession stand sales, is projected to generate about $24,000 in annual revenue. It will not operate during the county fair.

The meeting will review the fairgrounds overlay, event details and logistics, and how drive-in movies fit into the overall plan for the fairgrounds.

Public comments will be welcomed. Local residents who have expressed reservations about the plan are expected to attend, as are supporters.
