San Juan County Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services is offering a series of community awareness classes and training sessions beginning Jan. 27, which will run through March 4.

The series consists of two different training levels. Those interested in personal awareness, assisting DVSAS in fundraising, working in the the agency’s business office, being a safe-home provider or joining its board of directors can participate in a one-day Level 1 training. That 6-hour class is Sunday, Jan. 27, 1-7 p.m.

Those contemplating a career in working with survivors of abuse or who would like to volunteer to work with a crisis line can participate in a Level 2  class, which requires 42 hours of training. That training can be completed in a series of classes spread over 12 weeks. This class is a Washington state approved DV/SA core training and participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Both training sessions will be held at San Juan Center of Skagit Valley College, Friday Harbor (located near the airport). The class schedule consists of two six-hour sessions, Jan. 27 and March 3, and a series of evening classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.
