Peggy Cantrell of Friday Harbor saw the man take something out of the wallet he had just purchased at the Thrift Store, and toss it into the trash.
It looked like it could be old, maybe valuable. Her curiosity got the better of her.
Good thing. Turned out the discarded item was an aged, well-thumbed photo of three men in World War II-era uniforms.
And the names scrawled on the back — McCauley, Lawson and Anderson — are local names.
Cantrell gave the photo to Minnnie Knych, who now possesses it but would like to reunite the photo with the men in it, or deliver it to their descendants.
“She retrieved it as a piece of history,” Knych said of Cantrell.
“As you can see, it is a photo of three World War II soldiers. On the front is the caption ‘Daddy’ under the middle soldier. On the back, the names are McCauley, Lawson, Anderson. I assume ‘Daddy’ is Lawson in the middle. I am pretty sure these are San Juan County residents.”
If you know who the men are in the photo, call Knych, 378-4662; or Richard Walker, 378-5696.
