The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
June 12
• A deputy responded to a reported animal-at-large in the Obstruction Pass area on Orcas. The owner was identified and issued an animal-at-large warning letter.
• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to the report of a mailbox theft. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy was called about some property found on Lopez.
• After Lopez deputies responded to the Watmough area for a missing person report, the individual was quickly located.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a theft from a business in Friday Harbor.
• Once a San Juan deputy located a person wanted on a local warrant, the individual was booked into jail pending a court hearing.
• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on Center Road. The driver was subsequently cited for speeding and for registration that expired more than two months ago.
June 13
• An investigation into a death on Lopez is ongoing.
• A deputy responded to a civil call on Lopez.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a death investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
• Lopez deputies responded to a call about an individual who was argumentative with restaurant staff. When deputies located the individual, he was drinking from a wine bottle in the Community Center Park. Subsequently, the individual received a citation for consuming alcohol in public and was trespassed from the eatery.
• A San Juan deputy observed an individual driving with a suspended driver’s license. The individual was arrested for DWLS – 3rd degree and driving without an ignition interlock device. The driver also was cited for not having insurance and for displaying non-matching license plates.
• Deputies responded to a lodging facility in Eastsound on a report of a domestic disturbance. Further investigation revealed the dispute was verbal and no crimes had occurred.
June 15
• Deputies were contacted about a theft in San Juan County after several items had been taken from an outer island.
• The driver of a vehicle on Lopez was ticketed for violating the posted Parallel Parking Only area.
• San Juan deputies responded to a welfare check on an individual who was heavily intoxicated. EMS transported the person to the hospital.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a suspicious man walking around in the Village. The man was asked to leave a restaurant and reportedly was walking near private homes. Deputies had contact with the individual the previous day and believed he could have experienced a medical crisis.
June 16
• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a burglary at a business. The suspect fled and the deputy located the person and the vehicle as it was pulling into a driveway and arrested the individual for second-degree burglary, driving under the influence, and obstruction.
• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to the area of Hummel Lake because a male was yelling during the early morning hours. Deputies contacted the individual and found no assistance was needed. Several reports have been forwarded to the appropriate service providers for the situation.
• A deputy found a man sleeping in the woods on Lopez during the early morning hours. He was identified and moved along.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver received a citation for operating a vehicle without insurance, and additional verbal warnings.
• A Lopez deputy documented a non-injury motor vehicle collision on Port Stanley Road. The driver had taken his eyes off the road momentarily and driven into a deep ditch. A tow truck was dispatched to remove the vehicle.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to an assault complaint. The victim, the manager of a local resort, did not wish to pursue charges. Numerous people were trespassed from the resort at the manager’s request.
• An individual found a wallet while hiking at Lime Kiln State Park and took it to the Sheriff’s Office. The wallet was secured into evidence as found property.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a dog-at-large complaint, and two dog owners received dog-at-large warning letters.
June 17
• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a speeding citation for traveling 76 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone.
• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a not-in-progress residential burglary. The home was cleared and the scene was processed. Evidence was collected and sent to the Washington State Police Department’s crime lab. The investigation is ongoing.
• A deputy on San Juan discovered damage to his patrol car after finding a rock embedded in the passenger’s side tail light.
• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver was not licensed. The driver was then issued a criminal citation for DWLS – 3rd degree. The unlicensed driver also was cited for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and for defective turn signals/stop lamps.
June 18
• A deputy and Orcas Fire and EMS personnel responded to a possible overdose. The victim waived further medical care and declined to answer questions posed by law enforcement.
• A San Juan resident turned in several boxes of random shotgun ammunition for destruction. The ammunition was booked into the property and evidence room.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a motor vehicle collision at a local business. There were no injuries and only minor damage, and the parties swapped insurance information.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a domestic incident. Upon investigation, it was determined there was no domestic relationship; the complainant provided insufficient information to believe a crime had been committed.
• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a residential burglary call on the Southend. The scene was processed, evidence was collected, and a suspect was later taken into custody.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a harassment complaint. After investigating, the deputy determined there was insufficient probable cause to believe a crime had been committed.
• On San Juan, a deputy conducted a traffic stop after the driver of a truck accelerated quickly past the deputy. The driver was cited for speeding (39 MPH in a posted 25 MPH speed zone), for operating a vehicle without insurance, and for possession of open containers of alcohol in a vehicle.
