Former congressional candidate Diana McGinness and Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Everett, met in Bellingham last week to discuss the importance of the 2nd Congressional District race.

She and Larsen sent out this joint statement Thursday:

“Diana McGinness ran a great campaign focused on issues important to the District. I appreciate her support of my re-election and appreciate that we are united in the goal of moving our country forward,” Larsen said.

McGinness said, “While Rick and I don’t always agree, there is a clear choice for the District this fall. John Koster’s website tells it all. Where there should be a position on the economy, he offers nothing but an unemployment graph. That about sums up John Koster; no ideas, no solutions. I support Rep. Larsen’s re-election and urge voters to return him to Washington, D.C.”

McGinness, a retired insurance fraud investigator and Democrat, was one of five candidates for the 2nd District House seat in the Aug. 17 primary. She received 445 votes in San Juan County and 10,548 votes districtwide — a distant third.

The two top vote-getters were Koster, Snohomish County Council member and Republican; and Larsen, who was first elected in 2000.

McGinness suggested the meeting so the two could discuss the concerns of those she met during her campaign regarding job creation, holding Wall Street accountable and the significance of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.
