Devorah to showcase cross-country ride for Wounded Warrior Project

Beginning at 6 p.m., local musician Devorah's tribute at the American Legion Hall, Saturday, includes a slide-show, multi-media presentation and musical performance.

Fresh off a 3,000-mile promotional tour — by bicycle — and back home on San Juan Island, local singer-songwriter Devorah Gottesman will be at the American Legion Hall, Saturday, to talk about highlights and pitfalls of that cross-country journey and to continue with her mission of raising awareness and donations on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project.

Beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday’s tribute will include a slide-show, multi-media presentation and musical performance by Devorah.

On Oct. 10, Devorah pedaled out of Los Angles and then four months and roughly 3,000 miles later arrived in Jacksonville, Florida. Along the way, she stopped at schools, churches, synagogues, Veteran Affairs’ hospitals, American Legion posts and was interviewed by numerous media outlets to help promote and raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Wounded Warrior Project provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life.

The focus of Devorah’s promotional tour is “Pennies 4 Patriots”, a WWP program that assists those wounded in action in Iraq and Afghanistan. To date, she has raised more than $5,000 for the program. She also has written and performs a song dedicated to military veterans.

In late December, Devorah told the Journal she has additional fundraising ideas in mind, which will be unveiled at Saturday’s event at the Legion.
