The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 22
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision. The victim was able to obtain a license plate number from the vehicle that hit them and the deputy located the subject and arrested them for hit-and-run, and for possession of a controlled substance.
• A Lopez deputy took a theft report from a resident for a package that was reportedly delivered but never received.
• A San Juan deputy booked into the evidence room as found property a cellphone that had been found and dropped off at the station.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a sick horse.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a civil call. A person wanted to surrender an item to the Sheriff’s Office; it was booked in the evidence room for safekeeping.
• An Orcas deputy received a report of an assault. There is a previous active case involving the same two individuals; the investigation is ongoing.
• A Lopez deputy received a report of a citizen dispute occurring on Decatur Island. The dispute is over a recurring traffic safety issue.
Jan. 23
• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a civil dispute related to the caller’s case with Child Protective Services.
• A deputy on Lopez was sent to check into a civil issue regarding a deceased person’s property and completed a report.
• Deputies were dispatched to a reported theft on Crescent Beach Drive in Eastsound.
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen-assist near Eastsound.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a theft. There are no suspects or leads at this time.
Jan. 24
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of vehicle theft.
• Orcas deputies contacted and arrested a wanted person.
Jan. 25
• A deputy on Orcas spoke to a person claiming to be the victim of a domestic violence assault. An investigation was conducted after which the deputy determined sufficient probable cause existed to support the claim, and the suspect was arrested.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a traffic collision. Both parties were provided an exchange of information.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a welfare check. The subject stated they were fine and did not want to harm themselves or others.
• An Orcas woman reported that someone accessed her bank account information and used it to make several thousands of dollars worth of purchases in another state.
Jan. 26
• A deputy on San Juan arrested a subject on a domestic violence, no-contact-order violation. The subject was booked into jail.
• An Oras deputy located a wanted person. The person was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a kidnapping complaint. The complainant had received a telephone call from someone in distress claiming to be a relative of his. Another person demanded money. The caller recognized the call as a likely scam and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.
• A deputy was dispatched to a single-vehicle traffic accident on San Juan Island. The incident remains under investigation.
• A deputy on Orcas took a report of a possible kidnapping. A citizen reported hearing a female in distress whose voice he recognized. The female is known to be living south of Seattle. Through cooperating agencies, the report was discovered to be false and most likely an attempted scam.
Jan. 27
• A deputy took a report of a stolen vehicle from the Eastsound area. Further investigation identified the suspects; the case is ongoing.
• A deputy responded to a walk-in complaint of trespassing. A trespass letter was completed and later served to the individual involved.
• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute on San Juan.
Jan. 28
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to the report of a domestic dispute.
• A deputy responded to a suspicious circumstance call on San Juan. The caller requested four people be formally trespassed from her property. One person was located and trespassed, and deputies are attempting to locate the others to serve them trespass letters.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a civil call in the Eastsound area.
