The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
May 29
• A San Juan deputy arrested a driver for not having an interlock device in the vehicle. The driver was issued citations for not wearing a seat belt and for not having a valid driver’s license with identification and released.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to a report of a large cow out in the roadway, causing a traffic hazard on a south end road. The cow was gone when the deputy arrived.
• A San Juan deputy responded to an order violation. When it was learned that the order had not been served, the deputy served the order.
• A deputy arrested a man in Friday Harbor on an active warrant who was then booked into jail. He is awaiting a court hearing.
• San Juan deputies spoke with a complainant about an order violation. The investigation is ongoing.
• San Juan deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision off of West Valley Road. The driver was transported to the hospital and given a citation for reckless driving.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for not having a front license plate. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license with identification.
May 30
• A San Juan deputy issued citations to a driver for failing to wear a seat belt, an expired vehicle registration and for not having proof of liability insurance.
• A deputy investigated vandalism that occurred during school hours at the Lopez Island School. A person of interest was identified and a report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist for speeding in the 1400 block of Fisherman Bay Road. He issued the driver a ticket for speeding.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a seat belt. The driver was issued a citation.
• Deputies responded to an Eastsound apartment complex on a reported domestic disturbance. Further investigation revealed no crime had occurred, but the male subject had violated conditions of his Department of Corrections release. An informational report was completed.
• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a moped being recklessly operated. Witnesses said the moped had been driving in circles, nearly striking pedestrians. The case is under investigation.
• A deputy responded to a report that a juvenile in Eastsound had reportedly violated a court-ordered curfew. The juvenile eventually returned home, a report was documented and Juvenile Services was made aware of the incident.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for a defective taillight. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
May 31
• A deputy responded to a Lopez residence after a resident suspected boaters had come on to her private beach late at night. The deputy determined the boaters had violated no laws.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver citations for failing to wear a seat belt and not having proof of insurance, and a warning for expired registration.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 34 mph in a 20 mph school zone.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for an expired registration of more than two months. The driver was issued citations for driving without insurance, having an open alcoholic container and an open package of marijuana in the vehicle.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorist for traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.
June 1
• After a San Juan deputy received a report of a reckless driver, the driver was located and cited for reckless driving.
• A Lopez man was issued a warning for trespassing while operating a moped on a private road.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a noninjury accident near Eastsound. The at-fault driver was issued a citation for not having proof of insurance.
• A San Juan deputy stopped for not wearing a seat belt. The driver was issued a citation.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective brake light and traveling over the fog line. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
• San Juan deputies responded to a mental health welfare check after it was reported that a person had locked themselves in their residence. Deputies were able to talk the person out of the house, and then took the person to the hospital for evaluation.
• An Orcas deputy checked the name of a driver of a vehicle that was seen parked in the same place every day for months. The report came back clear.
June 2
• An Orcas deputy took possession of two bicycles that had been abandoned on private property.
• A Lopez deputy took a report of a noninjury boating collision that occurred at James Island on June 1. The collision damaged the reporting party’s vessel while it was tied up at a dock.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a motorcyclist for driving 37 mph in a 25 mph zone. The operator was issued a citation for speeding, and warnings for failing to stop at a stop sign and intentionally weaving in the lane.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a warning for speeding.
• An Orcas deputy assisted in returning some calves.
• A driver on Orcas was stopped for traveling 36 mph in a 20 mph zone, and received a citation for speeding.
• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop in Moran State Park. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 34 mph in a 25 mph zone, for a vehicle registration expired more than two months and for not having proof of insurance.
• A driver in Moran State Park was stopped for speeding. The deputy issued a citation for traveling 36 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver who was hauling some long boards that were sticking out into the oncoming lane. The driver was asked to adjust the load before continuing on.
• A deputy conducted a traffic stop inside Moran State Park and issued the driver a citation for speeding 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued a citation for traveling 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A San Juan deputy stopped and issued the driver of a vehicle a speeding citation for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A deputy responded to a juvenile problem in the Eastsound area and took the child home.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective brake light and issued the driver a citation for driving without insurance.
June 3
• An Orcas deputy took a report about missing property.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of sheep in the road. The sheep were corralled and returned to their owner.
• A deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person riding through the property of Orcas Christian School. The person was contacted and arrested on an outstanding felony warrant.
• A deputy arrested a wanted person in Friday Harbor on an active felony warrant and booked into jail awaiting a court hearing.
• A deputy on Lopez was called to a local business regarding a backpack that had been left by a customer. The customer arrived to claim the backpack moments after the deputy arrived.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for operating a vehicle on a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and possession of a controlled substance.
• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle prowl that occurred in Friday Harbor. The investigation continues.
• Orcas deputies reported that a vehicle was stolen and later found. The same day, two more car thefts were reported and deputies believe all the vehicle thefts are connected to the same known suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
June 4
• Recent reports of vehicle thefts on Orcas were resolved with the location of two cars that had previously been reported stolen and the arrest of a suspect. Deputies also believe that a vehicle prowl case is related.
• A Lopez deputy received a report of a pig running loose in the road creating a traffic hazard. The pig was gone when the deputy arrived.
• An Orcas deputy located a runaway juvenile.
• A report of malicious mischief on Lopez was unfounded when deputies learned that a window was broken accidentally during landscaping-maintenance activities.
• A San Juan deputy arrested a man on multiple outstanding warrants and booked him into jail for a next-day hearing.
