During a visit to San Juan Island Friday January 20, 2023, Congressman Rick Larson toured Zylstra Lake with staff of the Land bank alongside several key County staff and elected representatives of San Juan County. Congressman Larson’s island tour also included meetings with staff and elected officials from the Town and Port of Friday Harbor.

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) successfully secured funding for fifteen important community projects in the Fiscal Year 2023 omnibus spending package that local leaders and stakeholders identified as critical to their communities. Two projects were earmarked for funding in San Juan County: The Port of Friday Harbor’s Barge and Access Road ($650,000) and San Juan County Public Works Department’s Town to Zylstra Lake Multi-Modal Trail ($5,280,000).

The Port project will reconstruct its existing landing and access road for a barge landing and the San Juan County Public Works Department will construct about 2.5 miles of paved trail for pedestrians and bicyclists from the town of Friday Harbor to Zylstra Lake Preserve.
