The League of Women Voters of the San Juan Islands is hosting a primary election candidate forum Aug. 2, 2:30-4:30 p.m., in Mullis Community Senior Center, 589 Nash St., Friday Harbor.

The League of Women Voters of the San Juan Islands is hosting a primary election candidate forum Aug. 2, 2:30-4:30 p.m., in Mullis Community Senior Center, 589 Nash St., Friday Harbor.

All candidates running for the following positions have been invited: U.S. House of Representatives, 2nd District; state Senate, 40th District; County Council, San Juan South; County Council, Orcas West; and San Juan County Superior Court Judge.

Interview of council hopefuls Thursday
Four applicants for a Friday Harbor Town Council vacancy will be interviewed by the council Thursday at its noon meeting.

The council meets in the Council Chambers in Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

Candidates are B&B owner Anna Maria de Freitas, county fire marshal Bob Low, firefighter Noel Monin and accountant Dan Zaehring.

The council position was vacated by Kelley Balcomb-Bartok, who moved to Renton. The term ends Dec. 31, 2009.

Council members are paid $85 per meeting for up to four meetings per month.
