A boater discovered human remains on the shore of Sucia Island on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019.
San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call. The body has not yet been identified or linked to any missing person reports in the region.
“We believe it’s a man by the way he is dressed, but the body is in an extreme state of decomposition,” said San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs. “It was mainly bones. The remains have been in the water for quite some time.”
Sucia Island is a Washington State Marine Park located about two miles north of Orcas Island. It is 0.8722 square miles and is accessible only by boat.
San Juan County Coroner Randy Gaylord is waiting for dental record verification from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner in order to identify the skeleton.
