Bob Myhr seeking re-election to the San Juan County Council, District 6 | Election 2010

Bob Myhr announced Friday he will seek re-election to the San Juan County Council representing District 6 – Lopez, Blakely, Center, Decatur and Shaw islands. Myhr was elected to the three-member San Juan County Commission in 2005, succeeding Rhea Miller, who resigned. Re-elected in 2006, he served as the first chairman of the new six-member County Council. "I hope I have earned the trust and confidence of the voters and their support for another term," Myhr said in his announcement.

Myhr serves on the County Council’s Government Subcommittee and represents San Juan County on regional and state agencies: Salmon Recovery Council, Northwest Regional Council (Area Agency on Aging), North Sound Mental Health Administration, and Legislative Steering Committee of the Washington State Association of Counties.

Myhr and his wife, Joyce, have lived near Richardson on southern Lopez Island for the past 25 years. Myhr is a member of the OPALCO board of directors and was executive director of The San Juan Preservation Trust from 1985-2002.

The primary election is Aug. 17, the general election is Nov. 2. The top two vote-getters in the primary advance to the general election.

Council members serve four-year terms. They receive $34,000 a year and full benefits.

Islanders will vote on 14 legislative and local positions this year: County assessor, auditor, clerk, prosecutor, sheriff, treasurer; County Council District 2, District 5, and District 6; District Court judge, Superior Court judge; U.S. House of Representatives 2nd District, 40th District state House Position 1, and 40th District state House Position 2.
