Beware: Fraud caller pretends to be Sgt. Zac Reimer

Submitted by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office

Sherrif Eric Peter warned islanders Sunday Aug. 18, of fraud calls. “Good Sunday morning fellow community members. Unfortunately, I am reaching out today to warn everyone of another round of fraud attempts with someone pretending to be one of the members of our Sheriff’s Office and trying to scam people out of money.

We’ve already had three reports today and the following is an example of the method of operation this person is using to try and scam you. ” he wrote on FaceBook.

One of the calls today involved a call from 360-227-4281 (could possibly be a spoofed #). The caller pretended to be Sergeant Zac Reimer, badge # 101, told the person they had contempt of court warrants and tried to get them to pay $1,500 for one warrant and $1,000 for the other warrant. The suspect even provided a fake citation number. Thankfully the caller recognized this as a scam and did not give any information. If a call like this is received, please write down the phone number they called from, DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION, hang up on them, and report the fraud attempt to the Sheriff’s Office.

***Remember: THE SJCSO WILL NEVER CALL YOU TO INFORM YOU THAT YOU HAVE A WARRANT AND ASK FOR MONEY OVER THE PHONE!!
