Art in 3D at IMA

Kurt Wenner, famous for creating three-dimensional drawings and sidewalk art,  will host a reception for the public on Saturday, July 16, 5 – 8 p.m., at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art on Spring Street.

The IMA Museum, will present studies, originals, prints, photographs and models creating an exhibition correlating with Wenner’s new book “Asphalt Renaissance.”

“Asphalt Renaissance” will be released August 2, during the IMA Exhibition of Kurt Wenner’s work.

A look at the past

Author and educator Janet Oakley will demonstrate mid-19th century pioneer domestic life from 12 to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 16, on the English Camp parade ground.

The free event includes open-fire cooking, Dutch oven baking and butter churning.

Oakley is the former education coordinator for the Skagit Valley Historical Museum in LaConner, Wash.

She also assisted in designing the Pig War Traveling Trunk — a 4th and 5th grade curriculum for San Juan Island National Historical Park.

A recent UW grad

Eva Wingren, of Friday Harbor High School class of 2004, has recently completed a master’s of public administration at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Affairs.

She is moving to Washington D.C. to start her new job coordinating federal affordable housing efforts for Mercy Housing.

Auditions for ‘A Ladies Man’

Guest director Chris Jorie will direct a cast of four men and four women including San Juan Community Theatre’s executive director Merritt Olsen, in Charles Morey’s hilarious comedy “Tailleur Pour Dames,” a French phrase meaning “the ladies man.”
