IMA call for visual artists in SJ county

The San Juan Museum of Art and Sculpture Park is looking for visual artists for their Online San Juan County Artists’ Registry at www.sjima.org.

The registry provides a resource for the public, art connoisseurs and affiliations who want to connect with artists on the island.

Each artist registered receives a display page to upload a short biography, contact information, an image of their artwork and a link to their personal website and gallery affiliations.

To register each artist pays a one-time initiation fee of $50 and an annual fee of $25.

According to IMA, the registry provides “excellent exposure for emerging and well-established artists in San Juan County and supplies connections to collectors and interested art lovers, both locally and beyond our shores.”

10th Latitudes and Attitudes

The Port of Friday Harbor has reserved spaces for more than 100 boats for Latitudes and Attitudes, the 10th Annual Northwest Cruiser Rendezvous.

This year, the rendezvous has a pirate theme and everyone is invited for  kids activities, music on Saturday by Eric Stone, a kid and adult costume contest, food, a belly dancing competition, a blindfold Dinghy race and  the Northwest Maritime Film Festival movies with popcorn.

You can tour the Schooner Adventuress on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Then from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the public can sail at breakwater D.

Music at the SJ County Fair

The line up of local bands at this year’s fair are a lively bunch likely to get you out of your seat and onto the dance floor.

The Chameleons play on Thursday, 7-9 p.m. This cover band, features a wide variety of rock and alternative hits from the 60’s through the present

The Henry James Band plays Friday, 7 to 9 p.m. The band describes themselves as “old school, way cool. Blistering slide work and vocals by the “howler hisself” Tom ‘dog’ Doenges.”

The Orcas Horns (shown below) play on Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m.

This home-grown band, with professional roots reaching back to top bands and recording studios in Seattle, Los Angeles and New York, has a distinctive blend of R&B, soul, jazz, rock, and blues.
