The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
Jan. 10
• A Friday Harbor deputy arrested a town resident who had two outstanding warrants. The subject was booked into jail and a report was completed.
• A Friday Harbor deputy responded to the report of a found bike at a local business. The deputy recovered the bike but was unable to locate the owner. The bike was submitted as found property and a report was completed.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to pick up a dog running at-large on the south end of the island. The dog had no tags or identifying information, so it was taken to the kennel until it is claimed.
Jan. 11
• A deputy stopped a driver in Eastsound. The driver received an infraction for not having a valid operator’s license with a valid identification. She also received a verbal warning for speeding.
• Deputies on San Juan Island investigated a report of malicious mischief at a residence in Friday Harbor. The investigation continues.
Jan. 12
• A deputy stopped a driver in Eastsound for speeding and having expired registration. The driver also had a suspended driver’s license and didn’t have her required ignition interlock, which is a breathalyzer used to start vehicles. She was issued criminal citations for having a suspended driver’s license and no ignition interlock.
• A San Juan Island deputy was contacted in reference to a juvenile problem. The caller reported that her granddaughter had not returned home. The reporting deputy located the juvenile and returned her home.
• A Friday Harbor deputy was contacted in reference to a runaway juvenile. A parent reported that her daughter had not returned home by her curfew. A juvenile pick up order was completed.
Jan. 13
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted the involved persons. The incident was found to be verbal only. The involved persons agreed to leave each other for the night.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Mt. Baker Road. The driver, a local man, was issued an infraction for speeding 37 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
Jan. 14
• A Lopez resident turned in a dog he found running loose in the Lopez Hill preserve area. Deputies contacted the Lopez Animal Protection Society and the dog’s owner was eventually located.
• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism at Brickworks in Friday Harbor. There are no witnesses and no suspect information at this time. A report was made and an investigation is ongoing.
• Deputies responded to a plane crash at the Friday Harbor Airport. A single-engine plane with one person aboard landed on the grass 120 yards short of the runway and slid for 100 yards, tearing off the wheels and causing extensive damage. The pilot received minor injuries and the plane was totaled.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was cited for speeding 49 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was also issued criminal citations for driving with a suspended and false registration. He was given a warning for not having proof of insurance and the vehicle was impounded.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Lindsay Way. The driver, a local woman, was arrested for driving under the influence and with a suspended in the first degree. She was issued infractions for lane travel and speeding 59 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Jan. 15
• A San Juan Island deputy responded to a delayed report of a private property hit-and-run in Friday Harbor. Currently, there is no evidence to investigate.
• A man turned in a remote entry car key that he found along a gravel lane near Odlin Park on Lopez Island. The key had nothing else with it, and likely would cost $300-$400 to replace. The property is being held until claimed by the owner.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver because the vehicle had an obstructed license plate. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance and expired registration over two months.
• A Lopez deputy performed a welfare check at the request of a regional senior service center. The person was found to be in good health and did not require medical assistance.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for not having insurance.
• A Lopez deputy investigated a disturbance at Otis Perkins Park. All involved parties were contacted and a report was completed.
• Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor address for a dog complaint. The dog was already inside and found to have a proper dog run, water and food bowls. The owner stated the dog-sitter had to leave early and placed the dog on the run until they could get home.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver because the vehicle had expired tabs. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance.
• A Friday Harbor deputy made a traffic stop. The driver was found to be driving with a suspended license. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on North Beach Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 45 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. He was also given a verbal warning for not having proof of liability insurance.
Jan. 16
• A Friday Harbor deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration. The driver was issued infractions for operating a vehicle without registration and no insurance.
• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. The deputy gathered the information and completed a report. There was no evidence, witnesses or video surveillance.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a two-vehicle collision. A report was taken.
• San Juan Island deputies arrived at a residence in Friday Harbor to investigate a report of domestic disturbance. Deputies settled the matter by contact.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a driver on North Beach Road. The driver was issued an infraction for having an expired registration over two months.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for driving without a driver’s license. The driver was issued an infraction for not having a valid operator’s license with ID and not having insurance.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver because the vehicle displayed expired registration. The driver was issued an infraction for not having insurance.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a driver because the vehicle had a defective headlight. The passenger was issued an infraction for not wearing a seat belt.
• Deputies checked on the status of a Friday Harbor resident and found he was deceased.
• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a driver on Orcas Road. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. He was also given a warning for a defective right headlight and expired insurance.
