A Drive Safe campaign is underway in the county

Submitted by Washington Traffic Safety Commission – Region 11

The nationwide Impaired Driving Campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” is in progress. The campaign started on August 16 and runs through September 2.

During this time, extra DUI patrols will be looking for impaired drivers. Participating local law enforcement agencies include Everson PD, Bellingham PD, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Anacortes PD, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, Island County Sheriff’s Office, and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

Enjoy the end-of-summer festivities – but plan your sober ride home.

-Designate a sober driver, and plan to use public transportation or ride-share service to get home safely.

-If you are the designated driver, take it seriously.

-If you see an impaired driver, call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so.

-If you’re hosting a gathering, ensure all your guests have a sober ride home.

-Do not let someone get behind the wheel if they have been drinking.

We can all do our part to stay safe!
