YAAS Prom a success!

Submitted by the Young Adult Association of San Juan.

YAAS!, the Young Adult Association of San Juan, would like to express our sincere gratitude to the community for making our dream of having a prom come true. On Oct. 19 at Brickworks, a magical evening was filled with laughter, dancing and joy, as unforgettable memories were created. The idea of having a prom for YAAS! originated almost a year ago by a couple of our members. Many of them had never had the opportunity to go to a high school prom and were eager to have that experience.

With the help of our YAAS! family volunteers and community collaborators, Brickworks was transformed into an Enchanted Forest full of beautiful flowers and twinkling lights. The festivities kicked off with a red-carpet entrance and a photo session by a professional photographer. Then, refreshing mocktails, delectable appetizers and a gourmet dinner were enjoyed by all, followed by amazing desserts. After dinner, DJ Lars got everyone out on the dance floor, moving to a curated playlist of the group’s favorite “get up and boogie” songs.

It took our village to put on this special prom. For many in our group of young adults with various disabilities, this was their first taste of “prom magic.” We could not have made it happen without the generous donations and unwavering support of our community partners. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the following supporters: Aiden Haines Photography, Earthbox Inn & Spa, Brickworks and San Juan Agricultural Guild, Bakery San Juan, Downriggers, Duck Soup Inn, Deb Nolan with Island Cooking Company, Market Chef, Petal & Vine, Shindigs, San Juan Community Theatre, John and Allison Moalli, Kari Koski, Karie Rishel, Staci Baker and Chelsea Rogers. Your thoughtful contributions ensured that everyone felt welcomed, celebrated and included in a safe, warm atmosphere that was overflowing with excitement, joy and love.

The genuine kindness and support within our community is heartwarming. It is with sincere appreciation and gratitude that we thank our supporters for turning our dream into a magical, vibrant evening. We feel incredibly fortunate to have people like you who stand by YAAS! as we strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate community together.

Sincerely,

YAAS! Members and Families
