Who can best replicate that kiss? Attend the Legion Auxuliary dinner March 20 and vote

It was the kiss seen round the world. A Life magazine photographer captured a Navy sailor kissing a woman on Times Square, a spontaneous celebratory response to the announcement that World War II had ended. American Legion Post 163 will remember that moment and honor World War II veterans with a special dinner and a contest to see who can best replicate that kiss.

The dinner is March 20, 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public, but advance tickets are required; call 378-4348 or 378-4662. Tickets are $20 per person and includes dinner (Caesar salad, tri tip roast, red potato, green vegetables, and Gordy’s Famous Supreme Cookie). The dinner is free to World War II veterans and their spouses.

Ary Hobbel will be the featured toastmaster. After-dinner entertainment will be provided by Jill Urbach and the One More Time Band.

Co-organizer Pauli Gavora of the American Legion Auxiliary said one representative from each of the four services will be recruited to replicate the kiss as seen in that famous picture. The audience will select the winner.

The event will raise money for Honor Flights, to send World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. to tour the World War II Memorial. Former senator Bob Dole, who was wounded in action during World War II, will meet each plane. Veterans and their spouses will receive flights and accommodations for free.
